Mini Guide, what to visit in Milan and Brescia
Whether it’s for business, passion for fashion or love for design, the reasons to visit Milan, Italy’s most international city, continue to grow. For a round trip in one day, the destinations you can’t miss during your visit to Milan are the Duomo with its Madonnina, the city’s most famous symbol, Castello Sforzesco, the Church of Sant'Ambrogio, Piazza della Scala with its Teatro alla Scala, and the imposing Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
From here, in just a few steps, you can visit the most famous department store in Italy, the Rinascente, and in just ten minutes on foot you can reach the “Fashion Quadrilateral”, Milan’s the fashion district – a shopping area par excellence, which is area between the streets of via Montenapoleone, via Manzoni, via della Spiga and Corso Venezia.
In Milan, the design week every year attracts designers from all over the world and the areas surrounding Brera and Tortona come alive with events for the “Fuori Salone”, showcasing the best of Milanese nightlife.
If you want to get to know the trendiest area of the city, you have to go down to the Darsena and check out its famous Navigli (Naviglio Pavese and Naviglio Grande). But Milan is also art, where you can admire Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, the Last Supper, or visit exhibitions at the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Triennale or at the Prada Foundation. The city of Milan is not only the engine that drives the country's economy, home to the stock exchange and the prestigious Bocconi University. It also hosts the most important fairs and events in Europe, to be dogeared in the agenda: the Salone del Mobile, Milan Fashion Week or the Craftsman fair “Artigiano in Fiera”.
If you’re visiting on a business trip, don’t miss out on a visit to the newly renovated area of Porta Nuova, a project that has enriched Milan’s skyline with new skyscrapers, including the Unicredit Tower and the award-winning Bosco Verticale.

Are you looking for a train journey to discover Lombardy and the Po Valley? With Italo you can easily reach Brescia, one of the most important cities that unites the old and the new like few others. Brescia will surprise you with the sweet union between the old city with its traditions, and the new city, engine of the Po Valley. A proud city of its origins: it is no coincidence that it is nicknamed Lioness of Italy, a name that dates back to the ten days of resistance to the Austrian invasion during the Italian Risorgimento. Its sites of historical importance have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, such as the monumental area of the Roman forum and the city museum, inserted in the Lombard monastic complex of San Salvatore-Santa Giulia. Brescia is the ideal city for a visit on foot, take the four main squares of its historic center as a reference: Piazza del Mercato, Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza della Loggia and Piazza Paolo VI. In the latter you will have the opportunity to visit two cathedrals: the Duomo Vecchio, also called the Cathedral of the Rotunda, and the Duomo Nuovo. Eating in Brescia will undoubtedly be one of the most interesting parts of your trip: don't miss a taste of the typical dishes of the area, including polenta, the queen of Lombard cuisine, which cannot be renounced. You will find a suitable version for all tastes: with cod, with mushrooms, with vegetables or, if you are a meat lover, with pork sauce. The numerous square meters of public greenery that dot the city will also allow you to spend relaxing afternoons outdoors during the summer: the largest is the Parco delle Colline, but neither do the Parco Tarello or the Parco del Castello, which offer a view of fascinating glimpses of the historic centre. For a day of shopping in Brescia, on the other hand, we recommend the itinerary that starts from Corso Magenta, passes through Corso Cavour and continues along Corso Zanardelli and its numerous shops under the arcades. A few minutes' walk from Piazza della Vittoria you will find Corso Garibaldi and the ancient Torre della Pallata, for shopping with a boho-chic atmosphere and an international touch, given the numerous ethnic clubs that populate it. Brescia is also characterized by its proximity to the largest Italian lake, Lake Garda. A destination not to be missed for those wishing to spend a weekend in the midst of nature, strolling along the numerous panoramic itineraries. You will be able to fully enjoy the lake experience while also pampering your palate with dishes that only fresh water can offer: eels, tench and carp are the basis of many local dishes. For fun lovers Brescia also offers constant connections with the amusement parks, Gardaland above all, for an experience that will amuse the little ones but also their companions! Pack your bags and organize your train journey now to find out what is hidden behind one of the proudest cities in Italy. What are you waiting for? Buy your Italo ticket for Brescia!
