MINI GUIDE: WHAT TO VISIT IN VENICE
Visit the historic, refined city of Venice, unique in all the world, a miracle on water, an open-air museum. Looking for a train to Venice for your next vacation? Then get on board Italo and get to the ancient lagoon city that continues to conquer the hearts of visitors from all over the world with its bridges, canals and piazzas that are begging to be discovered. To take in all the charms of Venice, see the city from two different perspectives: on foot to take in the enchanting views, or lulled by the relaxing, gentle sway of a gondola.
For a round trip day in the city, make sure you don’t miss out on these destinations: the scenic Piazza San Marco, considered the parlor of Venice, the lavish Basilica of San Marco, a unique example of western-eastern architecture with its grandiose golden mosaics, inlaid floors and colored marbles; the Doge's Palace containing the Doge's private apartments, as well as the famous Bridge of Sighs, crossed by Casanova during his escape.
When it comes time for a snack break, our advice is to take a seat in one of the historic cafes in Piazza San Marco, where you can breathe in the atmosphere of the city in the lagoon. The Rialto Bridge, king of all bridges, from which you can see the Grand Canal from a different perspective, is also certainly not to be passed up. Continuing down this route, you can visit treasures like the Gallerie dell'Accademia, the San Zaccaria Church or La Fenice Theater.
If the glimpses of the canals of Venice were not enough, jump on the first ferry and let yourself be enchanted by the nearby islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello, which preserve the most authentic traditions of Venice. Burano is famous for its colorful houses and for the craftsmanship of the lace, while Murano is known all over the world for the ancient tradition of glass blowing and mystical Torcello island that combines intense spirituality with numerous artistic testimonies.
Venice is certainly a city that fascinates all year round, but which the Carnival makes even more magical. The Venetian Carnival is in fact one of the most famous in the world, and certainly an event to attend at least once in a lifetime. Put on one of the traditional costumes and get involved in this suggestive, popular festival considered unique for its history, masks and atmosphere!
And if you’ve organized your trip to Venice on the third weekend of July, you absolutely cannot miss the Festa del Redentore, with hundreds of boats pouring into the canals, forming a long bridge over the Giudecca Canal and ending with an unforgettable fireworks display that illuminates the whole lagoon. You just have to pack your bags and hop on a train to discover this unique city!
